Hi! My name is Charles – I’m an independent writer and self-published author from England.
I am the author of three novels. Sins on a Sunday (2026), Soldier Side (2021) and Letters from Abroad (2020.) I intend to release a fourth book towards the end of this year (The Book of Minimalism.)
I also publish essays here.
I always wanted to be a writer. Growing up with my parents on a farm, I was exposed to two schools of life – the countryside and novels. Both involved working with my brain and my hands.
I studied Literature and Politics at the University of Brighton, before beginning my professional life. I have travelled a fair bit and met some fascinating people over the course of my life.
And deep down, I knew there were stories in my heart that I was desperate to share with the world.
In 2013, fresh out of University and with no heavy commitments in life, I started developing the idea of Letters from Abroad, which eventually became my debut novel.
Reading and writing are core parts of my life. I live for both of these avenues and love every aspect of the written word. I’ve read just about everything I could get my hands on; from Hemingway, the Bronte’s and Dickens, to Helen Fielding, PJ King, Camus, Hugo, Jilly Cooper, Cormac McCarthy, and Stephen King.
I suspect the Modernists are those who have inspired my writing the most; ultimately I have to leave that up to others to decide. I am always open to experimenting with my work and believe writing is, and always must be, a process of understanding literature and our relationship to making sense of this world.
As mentioned, I am a completely independent author. Everything you see in my books has been created by entirely by myself. The stories, the editing, the covers of the books and their promotion are all strictly a solo effort.

Currently, all of my work is in British English, as it is my mother tongue. But there are plans to publish my work in French on the horizon.
In addition to being the home of my novels and written work; this website also functions as something of a revival of my old blog, Reflectivemindset.com. Part of the long term intention is to revisit some of that work on this website.
Such topics had included Minimalism, Travel, Lifestyle and general thoughts on the universe. In reality, it is whatever I deem important at the time. Those subjects matter to me the most.
